In my massages I use a variety of techniques in order to customize the massage to fit the needs of each individual. I see many young children with headaches and back pain due to stress, improper posture, or carrying heavy backpacks to school. I also see children who injure themselves in sports related activities. I work with people that have cerebral palsy, diabetes, scoliosis, torticolis, hip and knee replacements, frozen shoulder, plantar faciitis, migraines, whiplash, over use and repetitive use injuries, and many other muscular aches and pains. I work with people who are under much stress, either at their jobs or at home, or are depressed, to help them relax their bodies and their minds so they can live happier, healthier, and more productive lives. I visit local assisted living facilities helping the elderly with any aches and pains they might be experiencing to help improve their quality of life.
Reiki literally means "universal life energy". It is an energetic healing technique. Reiki practioners place their hands gently on areas of the clients' body to energize and balance their body, mind, and spirit. It can also be used to treat acute and chronic physical problems.
Neuromuscular Therapy releases the body from dysfunctional holding patterns that develop as a result of injury or misuse. It uses the body's built-in release mechanisms in combination with positional releases.
Chair Massage is a clothed, seated massage. It refreshes, energizes, and relieves stress by incorporating upper body massage techniques that focus on the back, neck, shoulders, scalp, arms, and hands.
Swedish Massage is used to address the whole body by relaxing the muscles, relieving pain, promoting circulation, and restoring balance in the body. I may also use hot stones and aromatherapy during the massage.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR MASSAGE
Your session may include a variety of techniques. Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort. You will be properly draped during the session. I will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table and cover yourself with the sheet.
A light oil or lotion may be used to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing friction to the skin. The lubricant used should hydrate the skin and be readily absorbed.
The average full body massage lasts appoximately one hour. A half hour appointment only allows for a partial massage session such as neck, shoulders and back. Many people prefer the hour session for optimal relaxation.
Make yourself comfortable. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting an arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask me questions about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.
When the massage is completed most people feel very relaxed. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended that you drink plenty of water following your massage.
